What is the History of Pickleball?

Pickleball was invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, Washington, at the summer home of Joel Pritchard, who served as Washington’s lieutenant governor. Pritchard, along with two of his friends, Barney McCallum and Bill Bell, devised the game. He was on vacation with his wife and children.

The pickle was invented when Pritchard and Bell returned to golf on one Saturday afternoon in 1965. They observed that their family was bored; looking at this, they thought of setting up badminton, but they didn’t find a shuttlecock.

Both Pritchard and Bell challenged their kids to invent their own game. Both the adults and the children ended up inventing a new game

by experimenting at the badminton court and experimenting with different rackets with the table tennis paddles, and that ended up inventing the table tennis paddles. Now, the badminton net was also lowered to the hip level to accommodate driving the ball.
