3 Ways to Make Your Technology Last Longer

Technology is an integral part of our lives that many of us depend on for more than just work. We rely on it to help us remember our groceries, keep in touch with our loved ones, and even as a way to exercise.

From laptops to smartwatches to integrated at home speakers, technology is tied into many of our routines. And as most people know, the price of technology is anything but cheap. Making your technology last is a wise financial decision, as you can extend the life of your big purchase, and also do your part to reduce waste.

If you’re looking for ways to make your technology’s life stretch even longer, here is what you should do.

Keep it Clean

One of the biggest causes of technology breaking down is a result of simply not cleaning it. Even the slightest amount of dust can cause significant problems with your tech. Practicing proper cleaning care will help your device last that much longer, and will also be that much more aesthetically pleasing. When you have grime and dust settled into the small crevices of your technology, it’s much less pleasant to use.

From the screen, to the keyboard, to any other mechanical parts, keeping your technology clean is a must.

Use Protective Cases

Sometimes, try as we might to take care of our devices, they can slip through our hands and take a fall. Unfortunately, this can lead to a cracked screen, or worse the device itself being totally unfunctional.

It’s as simple as adding a protective screen to ensure that your device can take a fall or bump there. This also applies to computers. A protective case is critical especially if you’re carrying around your computer in your bag. Sometimes we may forget that our phone is in our bag, and we may place it on the ground just a little too hard leading to serious damage.

Optimize Your Battery

Sometimes we make the mistake of believing that our phones should be charged at all times in order to get the best out of them. After all, the last thing we want is to have an empty battery when we’re on the go. Unfortunately, keeping your phone consistently charged over a certain amount can fry your battery over time.

Instead of constantly keeping it charged, allow it to get to a lower level once in a while. Otherwise, your battery will lose its capacity over time and will take much less time to drain.

In other words, a phone that would once last you all day may only last you a couple of hours because the battery was overcharged for too many months. Some phones allow you to use battery optimization mode which means that it will charge the battery slowly overnight while you’re sleeping rather than charging it 100% and remaining on a full charge the rest of the evening.

Otherwise, you might want to put your phone on low battery mode which can help you get the most out of your battery throughout the day without it draining prematurely.
